How to post an HD video to WhatsApp Status
Turn on HD uploads in WhatsApp's settings, send the video to yourself with HD on, then forward that message to My Status. Posting straight to Status skips the HD option and compresses the video more.
The steps
- Turn on HD uploads once: in WhatsApp, go to Settings, Storage and Data, Media Upload Quality, and choose HD Quality.
- Open your own chat in WhatsApp (search for your name or number), attach the video and send it. If an HD button shows, leave it on.
- Hold the message you just sent, tap Forward, and choose My Status.
Why forwarding works
- When you post straight to Status, WhatsApp uses its harshest setting. A video sent in a chat with HD on is kept at a higher quality, and forwarding reuses that copy.
Tips that help
- Shoot or export vertically, so WhatsApp doesn't shrink a wide video to fit.
- Don't trim or edit after preparing the video; every re-save loses a little more.
- Postproof prepares the video for you in one step, tuned on the posting route people actually use.
Questions
Is there an HD button for Status?
Not when posting straight to Status on iPhone. Sending to yourself in HD and forwarding is the reliable way.
How long can the video be?
Forwarded videos can be longer than the usual Status limit; a 75-second clip went through as one Status in our tests.
